Life, Love and Leadership Lessons from Aunt Polly

Inspired early in life by her father’s words, “If you put your heart and mind to it, you can do anything a man can do — and do it better,” Jane followed in her beloved dad’s footsteps and pursued a career in business. She’d been a vice president in Fortune 500 companies for 15 years when a new boss described her as “Aunt Polly.” These two little words propelled Jane on a white water ride of learning, personal insight, and change.

Once Jane quit fighting with “Aunt Polly” and what she represented, she recognized the value of Aunt Polly’s five lessons and realized Aunt Polly was just what she wanted to be.

Power, Persuasion and Influence

In today’s “new normal” of business practices, individuals must have a thorough understanding of what personal and professional power is – and isn’t – because shaping and influencing outcomes is a “must have” leadership skill. Knowing what power source to tap into and which form of influence to use for achieving the desired results are essential for effective leadership.

Jane draws on her 20 years of executive experience and taps into a wealth of research to help leaders:

  • Know what sources of personal and positional power are available for them to use
  • Learn strategies for using power and influence more effectively and without sacrificing likeability
  • Expand their comfort zone by knowing when to use different influence styles

For leadership events for all genders. Content can be reformatted for delivery at women’s initiative and networking events. Can be delivered in formats ranging from 30-45 minute keynote to a half-day workshop.

Communicate with Impact

“You can have brilliant ideas, but if you can’t get them across, your ideas won’t get you anywhere.” ~Lee Iacocca. Many women undercut their own effectiveness and workplace power when they communicate with wimpy words, unnecessary apologies and wet noodle questions. Being a skilled communicator is crucial for effective leadership at work, home or anywhere where women interact with others. Successful women know how to craft powerful messages and deliver them effectively.

This is highly engaging and interactive half-day workshop based on extensive research, interviews and Jane’s own experience as many times the single female executive around the table, participants:

  • Gain awareness of gender differences in communication styles
  • Learn how to modify and adapt messaging to drive two-way dialogue and exchange of information
  • Understand how to project a more credible and self-assured presence
  • Gain knowledge of how to speak with greater ease and confidence in meetings and presentations
  • Recognize communication practices that signal weakness, submission and dilute the impact of one’s message

Negotiation is a pivotal requirement for managing conflict, creating value, and distributing resources. • Devise strategies for negotiating up and dealing with senior decision-makers and influencers
